13.1

So I made a pretty big decision today guys.

I am gonna run a half marathon before the end of the year. I don't know exactly when its gonna be, but I am gonna start looking for ones held in my area, and I am gonna do it.

I have always been in an off and on relationship with running. My freshman year of highschool I was on the cross country team. I came into the season weighing about 230 pounds. I walked a majority of practices, and I was always last in every race I ran, except one. And I am particularly proud of that accomplishment. But by the end of the season I was down to 185 pounds, could run a mile in 7:20, and was in the best shape of my life. Then I gave it up over the off season and summer. Put weight back on, and didn't even try the next year. I showed up for like three practices, and just quit.

I would get into kicks where I would try to get back into running, but I would let any excuse stop me from doing it. But over the last few years, I have gotten the gumption up to run a 5k (3.14 miles for those that don't know) competitively. My dad got into running after I got out of it in highschool, and he would run races all the time. So I would hop in with him on a few a year. Always pulling decent times, and managing to run more than I walked. This last year was the closest I had ever come to beating my Dad in the races. I caught up to him on the last 1/4th of a mile, and I taunted him (my biggest mistake) so he took off with all he had left, and I had nothing because I just trucked it to catch him. I ended up 28 seconds behind him in the race. But that only spurred me on. That was 3 months ago, and since then I have really actually gotten into exercising and doing right by my body. I go running a few days a week. I go for a 2 mile walk every night, and I am on Weight Watchers to help me shed pounds through dieting as well. Siting at about 235 pounds right now, I feel like if I trained myself hard enough, and properly I could complete a 13.1 mile race in the next 4-5 months no doubt.

I'd appreciate any support I could get. If you guys know anything about different training tips, or good pre/post workout foods, or anything let me know! I will keep you guys updated about my progress as time goes on. But this is something I have been seriously considering doing for a while, and I am not gonna back down from this challenge.

Alright, on to the question for the day:

What is the hardest workout you have ever done? Or better phrased, whats the most accomplished you've ever felt doing exercise or working out, be it an event, competition, or just a personal experience?

Found this site! Hope it can help you train! I didn't check it out, but it could be helpful.

Otherwise the hardest workout I've done would have to be the 7 hill run for track & field. You had to run up and down these giant hills and we couldn't stop to walk. During it I felt terrible and the only thing I could think about was that it would never end. But once we were done, or rather a few minutes after, I felt that it wasn't that bad and that now anything seemed possible.

Have fun! And good luck!! :)
