Off to a Great Start!

Today I looked up and got the date for my half marathon. Its September 24th. So I have 10 weeks to prep and get in shape enough to run it.

Thats a little bit daunting actually...but I know that I can do it.

Tonight I got out and just ran to see what I could do. I finished two miles feeling actually pretty darn good, but I didn't want to push to hard on my first day, so I walked/jogged another mile and a half, and called it a day. Tomorrow is gonna be a light mile long jog, and strength training day to get a little rest, and then I will actually start the official training program I decided on.

I am feeling pretty pumped about it. Its a goal thats within my reach, but is challenging enough to really push me out of my comfort zone and kick my butt into shape. I am excited to see how far I can go at the end of these 10 weeks. Hopefully its the full 13.1 miles, but even if I have to walk some of it, its a testament to how far I can really push myself if I try.

Other than that, today was pretty chill. Not a whole lot to elaborate on.

So, Question for the day today. Would you ever compete in a timed race of considerable distance such as a 10k, half-marathon, marathon, etc?

  1. I wouldn't be able to compete!
Take a load off your knees and train by swimming or cycling too.

  2. Yeah, part of my training regiment is to have cross training days, and those are some of the suggested exercises to do. Thanks for the input! I'd follow you back, but you have your profile blocked! enable it and I will check out your blog!

  3. Gah, once I start actually being ABLE to run I do have plans to start doing such a thing.

Up here in Bellingham, there's quite a few walkathons and chances for marathons and halfs and such.

Now I just gotta focus on getting my knee to be able to BEND with weight on it from a standing position, let alone the ability to run.

But hey, just gotta keep workin' at it!!

  5. I had thought about turning my workout plan into some sort of training for a marathon, but I don't think I love running enough to be honest. It would definitely help me lose some weight, but I don't think I would actually end up running one.

Good luck though. Seriously. It's so difficult. I'm currently trying to lose weight, and it takes lots of commitments. I do agree with one of the above comments about taking up swimming and cycling too. Swimming is probably one of the best forms of exercising (and still very enjoyable).

  9. I wouldn't be able to finish a marathon like that. I can't even finish a run around the park I jog at :S

I'm trying to lose 20 pounds to get my BMI straight, though. Then maybe I'd be able to finish a marathon like the one you mentioned, but probably with a lousy time.
